Sinus tachycardia

Sinus tachycardia is defined as a sinus rate above 100 beats/min. The P waves have a normal appearance, although they can be difficult to visualize with a rapid rate. Since this is an automatic focus, carotid sinus massage may slow the rate, allowing the P waves to become more prominent. There are many causes of sinus tachycardia, including pain, anxiety, fever, hypoxemia, volume depletion, thyrotoxicosis, drugs, heart failure, ischemia, hypotension, anemia, pulmonary embolus, and shock.
