Reliability of the score

The reliability of a score is investigated to determine whether the score is consistently reproducible ( Hugh§s...and..Ashl..,1994). This can be approached in two ways: intra-rater reliability and inter-rater reliability. The following serve as examples.

The same individual should be able to measure and quantify the severity of illness for the same patient repeatedly yielding the same score (intra-rater reliability). In addition, two different individuals should be able to measure and quantify the severity of illness for the same patient repeatedly yielding the same score (inter-rater reliability).
