Principles of scoring systems

For a scoring system to be regarded as a scientific measure, it must be able to yield valid, consistent, and reproducible results. The validity and reliability of the score must be investigated in addition to testing the goodness of fit of the multiple logistic regression model.

Testing of the scoring system and publication of the results in the peer-reviewed scientific literature is an absolute prerequisite before its general acceptance and use. In addition, where possible, testing should be confirmed and published by an independent groups of researchers.
