where Jv is the net fluid transfer across the capillary membrane, Pc is the capillary hydrostatic pressure, P. is the interstitial hydrostatic pressure, pc is the intravascular COP, p. is the interstitial COP, and s is the reflection coefficient which has a value between 0 and 1. If the transport passages across the capillary totally impede transfer of colloid molecules, s = 1. A low reflection coefficient means that a high COP difference will be less effective at counteracting the hydrostatic pressure difference.
