Nutrition encompasses all processes which relate the intake of food to the structure and function of a living organism. It is concerned with the requirements of food and its metabolism. Maintenance of body composition and function depend upon adequate intake and metabolism of several nutrients. These nutrients interact and depend on each other for their action (J.e.eie.e.b.h.,oy; SM!.s eLa.l 1994). Nutrients can be divided into macronutrients, such as proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, which are consumed in gram quantities, and micronutrients, which are consumed in microgram or milligram quantities but are essential for the metabolism of macronutrients.
