Introduction

The definitive management of acute liver failure (ALF) involves measures to improve liver function. However, complications are often fatal before such measures can be undertaken or before liver regeneration occurs spontaneously. The severity and multiplicity of these complications are a testimony to the role of the healthy liver in maintaining normal physiology. Because of multiple organ involvement and conflicting therapeutic aims, the management of complications of ALF can be one of the most difficult challenges for the intensive care unit (ICU) ( ^££..199.3.; Q.§Ea£en!,Jnd,.V§n.,JÜ!®1..1995).
