Patients with possible multiple trauma should be completely undressed, usually by cutting off the garments, to facilitate a thorough examination and assessment. However, it is imperative to cover them after the examination to prevent hypothermia. If an inflated pneumatic antishock garment is in place, it should not be removed until each compartment can be deflated slowly without a drop in systolic blood pressure of more than 5 mmHg. If inflating the abdominal compartment causes respiratory difficulty, a diaphragm injury should be suspected.
