Common cardiorespiratory network

There are close interactions between the respiratory and cardiovascular control systems in the brainstem which are part of both respiratory and cardiovascular control. The structures are located in almost identical regions. The tight coupling between the two systems results in a matching of respiratory minute volume to cardiac output. Central respiratory activity can influence the performance of several basic cardiovascular reflexes (e.g. respiration-related variations in heart rate and blood pressure).
