Circulatory support

Many critically ill patients require large volumes of intravenous fluid and pharmacological support of their circulation. Most volumetric pumps for the elivery of fluid or drugs are too bulky and heavy for easy use, although portable devices are available. Fluid boluses may be delivered using a pressurized intravenous system. Drug infusions should be delivered by battery-powered syringe drivers. A minimum of two syringe drivers should be available and can also be used for sedative infusions. A generous amount of crystalloid and colloid solutions must be available. Blood products may be required and should be carried in a suitable container.
