Like TRISS, ASCOT uses anatomical and physiological measures of injury severity, age, and type of injury to relate patient values to survival probability. Patients with extremely poor or good prognoses are divided into four sets and excluded from logistic function modeling. T.able .4 defines these 'set-aside' groups and gives their associated ASCOT survival rates. The ASCOT Ps assigned to each patient in a set-aside group equals the survival rate of the group.
