Y8 T Cells

y§ T cells are also important innate immune effector cells that are found primarily in non-lymphoid tissues. In a Cn infection, y§ T cells are thought to play a down-regulatory role of host defenses (Kawakami, 2004) due to their production of TGF-0, which is known to suppress host defenses to infectious pathogens (Reed, 1999). Similar to NKT cells, both the number and percentage of y§ cells increases during Cn infection. However, mice lacking y§ cells have fewer CFUs in lung and more IFN-y in serum (Uezu et al., 2004). Further studies are needed to elucidate the function of these cells in Cn infection.
